Am I Safe to Record?
This page does not store any data. Your answers never leave your browser. Press Escape at any time to leave immediately.
Recording Consent Law
Select your state to see whether you may legally record a conversation or phone call without the other person's knowledge.
Interstate Recording Risk
If you and the other person are in different states, the stricter consent law governs. Select both states to see which rule applies.
Coercive Control Pattern Checklist
Check any behaviors you have experienced. This list is for your awareness only — it is never submitted or saved anywhere.
Even a single checked item may indicate coercive control. You do not need to experience physical violence for this to be abuse.
Device Safety Audit
Check any items that are true for you. Nothing is submitted or stored. If any apply, assume your device may be monitored.
- There are apps on my device I don't recognize or didn't install
- My battery drains unusually fast or the device runs warm when idle
- Apps have location access I don't remember granting
- Another person's Apple ID, Google account, or Microsoft account is linked to my device
- Find My iPhone or Find My Device is shared with someone I did not choose
- My iCloud, Google, or email account recovery phone number or address is not mine
- I share a phone plan and the account holder may access my call or message history
- My browser is signed into a shared or someone else's account (Chrome Sync, iCloud Safari)
Two or more items suggest active tracking or account compromise. The Coalition Against Stalkerware provides free device audit guidance — check their safety checklist before continuing to use this device.
